Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Director: Rob Marshall
Stars: Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane
Rating and Length: PG-13 / 136 minutes
Genre: Action/Adventure

I gave this four stars because it was visually fantastic and therefore worth seeing on the big screen, but only if you like the rest of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.  Even though this one doesn’t offer anything new (except Penelope Cruz who is of course good) from the past three installments, it still offers everything I like about this movie franchise.  Mostly it was enjoyable because it focused mainly on Captain Jack Sparrow, who this time around is looking for the Fountain of Youth.  His choreographed escape attempts were fun to watch and his quirky behavior and sense of humor creates lots of laughs among the heavy fighting.  The best new addition were the mermaids (even if they do resemble Twilight vampires) and I didn’t even miss Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.  All in all an enjoyable and entertaining movie experience.
